USEFUL INFORMATION
UNDERGROUND PERUGIA
Visits to Underground Perugia are available exclusively as guided tours, both for safety reasons and to ensure a full understanding of the site and its historical significance.
Comfortable footwear is recommended, along with layered clothing during the colder months. The temperature within Underground Perugia ranges from approximately 8°C to 18°C, depending on the season.
The 15-metre difference in elevation between the Upper Cloister and the lower section of the archaeological site is negotiated via a series of stairways. These are not particularly demanding, as they are encountered gradually throughout the tour rather than all at once.
While perceptions of confined spaces are highly subjective, the areas within Underground Perugia are generally not particularly narrow. The first section of the tour includes the most restricted spaces, after which the rooms become considerably largerand more spacious. Visitors may, at any time, step back from the group if they feel uncomfortable and, if necessary, ask the guide to accompanythem to one of the several emergency exits located along the route.
The tour is suitable for children; however, pushchairs and prams cannot be taken along the route due to access limitations. They may be left at the ticket office during the visit.
Amateur photography and video recording are permitted, provided that no tripods or similar equipment are used. For professional photography or filming, prior written authorisation is required. Requests should be submitted to info@genesiagency.it.
Animals are welcome, provided they are always kept under the owner’s control and their presence does not disturb other visitors or compromise the enjoyment of the site.
The ticket office for Underground Perugia, as well as the starting point of the visit, is in the cloister of St Lawrence Cathedral, accessible through the large doorway in Piazza IV Novembre, at the end of the church’s arcade.
